課程概述

This course serves as an introduction to contemporary musics of Indigenous Peoples. Starting with the concept of indigeneity and background on Indigenous Peoples living in the country now known as Taiwan, the course explores issues related to cultural resurgence, alliance, and intersectionality and works through ethical issues to consider when approaching and writing about Indigenous musics and musicans. Students in the course will discuss these issues in small groups, listen to examples of contemporary Indigenous musics across several genres, and complete a listening journal. Finally, students will complete a group presentation on a musician or musical practice that connects critical reflections on their listening experience with the broader social context of Indigenous cultural resurgence.
